Authentic Personal Branding, Identity, and Social Media Discernment: Insights from Three Sixty Conversations
I had the pleasure of being invited onto the Three Sixty Conversations podcast hosted by Tamu Thomas. Initially I thought we were just going to discuss PR and business and all that comes with it but our conversation delved more deeply into identity, culture and authenticity.
We discussed how we can use social media in a way that reflects who we are, whilst navigating its ups and its down. Something powerful happens when you're given the space to just flow, Tamu really did a great job of letting us flow and connect throughout this conversation. We were able to have an honest and open conversation which I hope the listeners can learn from and identify with.
Some of the key takeaways:
Using social media effectively: In today’s digital era, using social media effectively is more important than ever and this applies for entrepreneurs, content creators and professionals across industries looking to grow their personal brands. Social platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter) have become powerful tools for establishing an online presence and building meaningful connections with your audience. However, success on social media doesn’t come from simply posting frequently or jumping on trends. It’s about being intentional with your content, engaging authentically with your followers and understanding the unique language of each platform. When used strategically, social media can help amplify your voice, showcase your expertise and create opportunities that extend far beyond the screen.
How to use social media to build a personal brand: One of the most impactful ways to grow online is by learning how to use social media to build a personal brand. Your personal brand is what you want to be known for, it’s what people say about you when you're not in the room. Social media offers a stage to shape that narrative. By consistently sharing valuable content, telling your story and showing up as yourself, you begin to create a personal brand that reflects your values, skills and passions. So whether you’re aiming to become a thought leader in your industry, attract clients or land career opportunities, a strong personal brand sets you apart from the crowd and makes you memorable in a noisy digital world.
How to build a personal brand authentically: Building a personal brand should be rooted in authenticity. Audiences today crave genuine connection and they can spot inauthenticity a mile away. Share what you’re learning, what you stand for and what drives you throughout your journey. The most successful personal brands are not built on perfection, but on trust and relatability. When you bring your true self to the table, your content resonates more deeply, and you build a loyal community that supports you over time.
