Self-sabotage is something that very few of us actively acknowledge but if we take a moment to assess our actions and attitudes we have probably all self-sabotaged at one point in our lives. We all know what we have to do and usually take the steps to undertake them but sometimes our inner voice will work against us, some call this our sub-conscious, which can work with or against our conscious selves. We can spend a lot of time looking at what everyone is doing or not doing to help or support us.

We do the work on how to build our confidence to get what we want and set goals for what we want but what if we are the ones blocking our own success? We can get all the motivation and inspiration that we need but if we do not address our own internal blocks then we will rarely move forward. Procrastination, poor time keeping, lack of sleep & rest, not committing to things, not looking after ourselves, being judgmental and jealous of others (a way of distracting ourselves from what we need to do) are just a few ways that self-sabotage can manifest. Consistently appearing to be busy but never really being productive is another way that self-sabotaging can show up for some of us. In the work that I do as a personal branding coach I see this show up often and as a motivational speaker I try to share insights into how people can overcome self-sabotage using my own personal experience.

In this video I provide some of my own tips on how to stop the cycle of self-sabotage.

Overcoming self-sabotage is one of the most powerful steps you can take toward personal and professional growth. Too often, people struggle not because they lack talent or ambition, but because they’re unknowingly stuck in cycles of self-defeating behaviour. Whether it’s procrastination, negative self-talk, or fear of success, these hidden habits can quietly limit your potential and keep you from reaching your goals.

That’s why identifying and addressing self-sabotaging behaviours is crucial. If you don't develop even a basic level of self-awareness, you may continue to repeat patterns that hold you back both in business and in life. Without realizing it, you might be avoiding opportunities, sabotaging relationships, or dismissing your own progress. These behaviours don’t just affect your productivity they impact your confidence, clarity, and long-term success.

The first step toward change is recognizing that you’re in a loop. The next is making intentional, conscious efforts to shift your mindset, build better habits, and create room for growth. When you understand what’s triggering your self-sabotage, you can begin to take control and redirect your energy toward healthier, more empowering actions.

Remember: Self-awareness is the foundation of personal transformation. By becoming more mindful of your thoughts and actions, you open the door to real, lasting change. Don’t let hidden habits limit your future, start doing the internal work that leads to breakthroughs.
